Depth & Imagination

The Foundations of Imaginative Art

I work individually with people through a program I call Depth and Imagination.

It’s a personalized 4-week series that builds the foundation for Imaginative Art.

Depth & Imagination is for people who feel drawn to their creative work but don’t know where to begin or how to go deeper. It offers a clear starting point, a steady structure, and a guided path through the parts of the process that are hard to navigate alone.

Over four private, 90-minute sessions, we move step by step through the foundations of creative attention, expression, and inner imagery. Each session builds on the last, giving you a simple way to understand what’s happening in your creative life and how to work with it.

The sessions are structured and personalized to where you are. The arc of the program is designed to give you direction, guidance, and a sense of continuity without pressure. You’ll come away with a clearer understanding of your relationship to creativity and a way to continue on your own.

The Four Week Arc

Session 1: Attention & Creative Grounding

We start by slowing down enough to notice what’s actually happening when you create. Then, we practice creating safety around the act of making through embodiment practices that ground us in the present moment.

From there, we practice Imaginative Art exercises that help train attention, and sensitivity. We look at where you attention goes as you create, what helps you begin, what gets in the way, and what’s already alive beneath the surface.

This session sets the foundation of the whole series. It gives you a clear, repeatable way to approach your creative work without pressure.

Session 2: Gesture, Emotion & Early Imagery

This session helps you see how your inner life wants to express itself visually. We explore how your creative impulses show up physically through gesture, mark-making, movement, and emotional tone.

We look at what wants to move, what your hands do before your mind gets involved, and how to work with what appears without overthinking it.

This session is about creating an intuitive connection to your own unique expressions.

Session 3: Foundations of Active Imagination

This is the shift point in the series.

We explore the first stages of active imagination as a simple way of following inner images, colors, forms, and sensations.

We look at how to meet an image, how to stay with it long enough for it to unfold, how to sense what’s emerging, and how to follow subtle shifts in perception.

This is often the session where something drops in.  You’ll have a felt sense of your own relationship with an image and confidence to know how to follow it.

Session 4: Development, Meaning & Integration

Here we bring everything together.

We can review anything from previous sessions, then explore where your creative life wants to go next.

We look at the themes that have shown up, what feels complete, what is still opening, and how you can continue this work on your own.

This session is about integrating a clear direction, a sense of continuity, and a way forward that is uniquely your own.

Here are some commonly asked questions, and feel free to email me at kristenphillips.art@gmail.com or request a free consultation.

  • This is a four session series that can be completed at your own pace. You can decide how much time you need between sessions based on your schedule and how much time you need to absorb and incorporate what you learned.

  • I teach online via Zoom and will record the session if you’d like to have it for reference.

  • You don’t need to have any experience with art, only a willingness to learn. What we focus on in these sessions is mostly inner work with the creative process, which is something every human being has the capacity to do.

If you do have experience with art, we can work in your preferred medium.

  • Sessions are 90 minutes and can be scheduled at your own pace by contacting me via email.

The price per session is $145 USD, or you can book all four sessions at the discounted rate of $545 USD.

A short application is required to ensure the work we do together is aligned and supportive.
